I have a confession. On this Journey to Legacy I post a lot about positive thinking trying to inspire you to change your thought process. But, honestly, I have the very same questions that you have. 1) “How can I think positive when there is so much negativity around?” 2) “What can I actually do to change the way I think?” and 3) “Can I have some SPECIFIC instructions on how to do it?” Trust me, I feel your pain and as I get answers to these questions I try to share them with you.
To help me change my own mind I am always reading a book. I may not read every single day but at any given time there is a book on my agenda that I am using to motivate me. The most recent book was Norman Vincent Peale’s The Power of Positive Living. This book is full of things you can implement into your everyday life to help you think and live more positively but the simplest idea that anyone anywhere can implement right away is the word “STOP”.
I always encourage you to immediately replace negative thoughts with positive thoughts to help change your thinking pattern but Peale takes this further. In his book he suggests that we literally think, or even speak, the word “STOP” right in the middle of a negative thought. Then replace the negative thought with a simple positive thought like “I am alive” or “I can breathe” or even “My mind is able to think”. How easy is that? It’s super easy, I encourage you to start trying it TODAY.
